Launch of a New Initiative for MEGs

In 2007, a review of the MEG network was undertaken by the Director and it was decided that the current program was due for an overhaul to stimulate more community interaction.

An exciting opportunity to introduce real stories in a different way using the MEG network was discussed with some of the MEGs – digital storytelling. Since the stories would centre on energy in the community, the title ‘MEGs meets DES’ meaning our MEGs would be introduced to Digital Energy Storytelling, which was a good marketing line to use for the launch of the new program.

Already we have a few museums with an interest in finding out more. A talk from the Director about the ‘MEGs meets DES’ program is currently being planned. Following the talk and the initial discussions with each museum, some of the volunteers from Noosa Museum in Pomona and Wondai Heritage Museum will have the opportunity to start to put together stories related to their own community’s energy history and heritage.

The Director will be available to assist with the collection of stories in Pomona and Wondai.

Watch this space for an update on MEG meets DES in the following months.

The Memories of Energy Trails (METs) are a natural progression of MEGs, and the first trail in the South Burnett was launched in Kilkivan on 24 June 2005. The trail includes the towns of Kilkivan, Murgon, Wondai, Kingaroy, and Nanango. More energy trails are planned throughout Queensland.

Memories of Energy Groups have been established in:

Mount Isa

Chinchilla
Nanango
Highfields Pioneer Village Pomona
