South Burnett Memories of Energy Trail

What can be seen on the energy trail?

Kilkivan: Kilkivan Museum has an extensive household collection illustrating the changes in domestic technology from the days of the early settlers to the twentieth century. The nearby Elginvale Mill Museum is open by appointment.

Murgon: the Murgon Dairy Industry Museum has a comprehensive collection of photographs relating to the history of butter factories in Queensland, some documents and dairy industry objects ranging from lighting plants to testing equipment.

Open Mon to Fri 9.30 to 2.30pm, Sat and Sun 9.30 to 12.30pm or by appointment Tel (07) 4169 5001

Wondai: the Wondai Heritage Museum has an interesting collection of hospital equipment from the former Wondai Hospital , including an operating theatre and 'scrub room' in the original building. A range of agricultural machinery from the shire is also on display.

Open Mon/Tues/Wed and Fri 10.00am to 4.pm. Closed Thursdays. Weekends by appointment

Kingaroy: the Kingaroy Bicentennial Museum is situated in the original Kingaroy Powerhouse. The architecture of the building represents the style of the larger rural powerhouses of the period. To highlight the museum's 'People, Power and Peanuts' theme there are displays concentrating on the history of the powerhouse and the peanut industry.

Nanango: The Nanango Visitor Information Centre has a large display relating to the nearby Tarong Power Station. Additionally, the members of the MEG Sub-committee of Nanango Shire Historical Committee plan to rebuild and renovate the old engines from the Nanango Butter Factory. Developments relating to this project will be available from the Visitor Information Centre at intervals.

The Nanango Visitor Information Centre is open Mon to Sat 9am to 4pm, Sun and public holidays

Yarraman: The ‘Lighting Up Yarraman' exhibition can be viewed at the Yarraman Heritage Centre. The exhibition tells the story of the small, privately-owned Yarraman Powerhouse. Visitors can listen to the memories and experiences of the pioneers of electricity in Yarraman.
