Ann Street Powerhouse

The Brisbane Electric Supply Company (BESCo) was formed in 1896 with a staff of 17 following the liquidation of the Barton and White venture. BESCo., with Edward Barton as Manager, continued to operate from the Edison Lane site until increased demand for electricity led to a move to larger premises in Ann Street. By 1904 there were 28 members of staff.

The following photographs of Ann Street Powerhouse were taken between 1899 and 1904. BESCo. Changed its structure and became the City Electric Light Company (CEL) in 1904.
