new to Ergon Energy are surprised by our scope. Operating
across 97% of Queensland from the coast to the outback, from
the Torres Strait islands to Queenslands major regional centres,
we provide power to over 580,000 customers.
Ergon
Energy was formed in 1999 through the amalgamation of Queensland's
six regional electricity distributors and their retail subsidiary.
This immediately made us distinctive internationally as the
operator of one of the largest and most diverse infrastructure
networks in the western world. Our electricity network includes
140,000 kilometres of lines, around a million power poles
and thousands of substations - and services more than 1 million
square kilometres.
We're
also one of the largest purchasers of green
energy in Australia. And we successfully retail energy in
regional Queensland.
